How do I clear recent IMs and phone calls in my Contact Search bar?

I am unable to do this by Clearing Message Archive and Call History. I've tried several times, and it does not work. HELP!!!!How do I clear recent IMs and phone calls in my Contact Search bar?
When you clear the archives messages and call history.After doing it click APPLY and clear the box archive messages,and click the box wipe of the messages as you sign off the messenger.On your messenger click-Messenger tab from the drop down list click Archive-a new dialog box will appear- from the archive box clear the check mark and mark the third box to clear your message.As far as phone calls check mark the 2nd box in the bottom.Later click apply and close the box by click OK.How do I clear recent IMs and phone calls in my Contact Search bar?
The solution didn't work for me (with v8). Nor does right clicking on the entry (no delete feature) Has anyone else solved this problem?
