How do I clear the items that show under the ';search the web'; area?

Deleting the cookies wont help. You will have to clear the auto complete history. To do this go to Menu in IE and

1. Select Tools-%26gt;Internet Options

2. From the Internet Options window, select the 'Contents' tab and click on Auto Complete button.

3. Click on the 'Clear Forms' button to get rid of searches history.

4. Uncheck the option for 'Forms' to avoid history being created in future.

*** If you clear Forms History, this will delete any other forms auto-complete that the system might have saved. Means, let's say when you go to movies.yahoo.com and have to put in your zip code to get listings of theater near you - if earlier it used to show your zip code auto, now it wont any more after you clear forms.
